Dueling Haikus

Being the wonderful girlfriend that I am, my gift to my boyfriend for Christmas this year was a beautiful new Deering banjo. He is a musician and it was the perfect addition to his already massive collection of instruments. Tonight we decided to try our hand at the classic haiku. We became inspired by the instrument and the joyful noise that it has brought into our home since the holidays. I’m sure our neighbors would say otherwise, but we can’t get enough of that twang. A musician and a writer acting in poetic collaboration is a truely wonderful thing.

Old mountain songbird,

Sing of good times forgotten,

Nest upon my lap.

Strings on the white wood,

Ring as true as yesterdays,

May it take you there.
